We imagine that Pirates and Piracy was something that happened in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Piracy is alive and well and is happening right now!

Hi Tortoise,
I agree that piracy is alive and well. I actually see this more as an act of war, but if piracy gets the headlines. I read sailing magazines where they post three or four scary pirate stories every year. I worry most about commercial carriers, they will run right through and not stop. Ever read The Life of Pi ?
Most pirates I read about are today known as drug runners, mules, and other such titles, but if some DNA maps were drawn up I bet they would lead back to the scurge of the seas. And they are deadly, I only know of one story where the victims lived to talk about the meeting.

Is anyone watching Whale Wars on Animal Planet? I love that show!
The Sea Shepherds refer to themselves as Eco-Pirates.

No, Pi is not short for pirate. Although the book plays a sea I don't remember any pirates in it, but it's a long time ago I read the book.
