Better support for different media would be more in keeping with the current definitions of "library". Obviously lots of folks are including their video/DVD and music/audio/CD collections in here already, but a little enhancement could make it a lot easier to do.
My guess is that it would be risky for LT though: It might cause too much growth, too fast. And it might overwhelm the book-nature of the project.
Indeed, I would very much like to put in my own video & music collections, and see what other people have. But if LT were overrun by people who listen to music or collect videos but don't read, I would be sad.
Thoughts?

My own view is that sites like this are best sticking to their knitting. The cataloguing of other media is not their knitting and has significantly different requirements. Anything that would blur the focus on books would, in my opinion, be a very bad thing. For all of us.
However a similar business for th other media might make sense - why don't you set one up?

Just like real libraries, I don't discriminate against other media, and I would much rather have a unified library cataloging it all. (Obviously no one would have to use these features if they didn't want to.) In fact, I've actively considered ditching librarything for just this reason, in favor of the 43things product Allconsuming. (There are a number of reasons why I haven't done this, of course.)
However, I would imagine these features would be implemented in an ancillary way (again, as with real libraries), and that the primary focus would remain on books, so there would be no reason to think that unstoppable hordes of illiterate listeners and viewers would be a danger.
