Four stars for nostalgia. What a great way to show little kids how to tell a horror story! These were truly scary to me as a kid, and I loved reciting them to others. I misremembered some of them actually, and was fascinated to read them again. I recognized several from their "adult" or original versions, and was pleased. It would explain why, when I heard them as an adult, I thought "these sound familiar" but couldn't figure out why. It's because I read retellings as a kid.

I congratulate the author on his success, and am thrilled that he added a bibliography, notes and sources. I congratulate the illustrator on his success as well! I remembered the drawings as being far more detailed and creepy, but yeah, I am probably thinking of other books. I still really enjoyed the illustrations.

I hope these books continue to be widely read and the stories recited. ( )

3.5 stars. These were cute, funny stories but not scary at all. Maybe they would be to a little kid (which is who this book is intended for) but I have a hard time believing 8 year old me would even be scared of this. I don't know, I use to watch a lot of scary stuff as a kid so I don't think this would do it. However, if you're not use to watching or reading scary stuff then some of the stories might scare you but to me they were more funny than anything. ( )

No está mal, aunque no me pareció maravilloso y las historias tampoco fueron terroríficas, me da la impresión de que no están desarrolladas del todo, aunque no dudo, sin embargo, que muchos chicos le saquen provecho. Las ilustraciones son el verdadero plus de este libro, incluso creo que superan a las historias.

Una parte que sale sobrando es la de las historias que pueden causar risa.
