F/SF Picking up where the first book left off, Merlin is awaiting the birth of Arthur, whose upbringing he secretly expects to oversee until Arthur's real father, King Uther Pendragon, acknowledges him as his son and heir. The bulk of the narrative relates to Merlin's travels and Arthur's childhood in the household of Count Ector during this time, as well as the political machinations in the air. I never expected it would take two years to get to book two after reading The Crystal Cave in the fall of 2021, but here we are. The series so far has proven itself quite satisfying, handsomely-written classic Arthurian legend. Stewart's interpretation gives what feels like a well-rounded and cohesive version of the stories of which I was aware of only general bits and pieces previously. I shall endeavor to get to the third book in a more timely manner. HTML: The spellbinding, suspenseful story of how Merlin, the Enchanter, helped Arthur become the king of all Britainâ??a magnificent novel set in a time when no life is safe, no law stable Keeping watch over the young Arthur Pendragon, the prince and prophet Merlin Ambrosius is haunted by dreams of the magical sword Caliburn, which has been hidden for centuries. When Uther Pendragon is killed in battle, the time of destiny is at hand, and Arthur must claim the fabled sword to become the true High King of Britain. The prophetic voice of Merlin communicates not only the bristling atmosphere of the story's ancient setting but also its profound relevance to our own time. Once again, as she did in her bestselling The Crystal Cave, Mary Stewart provides a glowing re-creation of pre-Camelot England. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
