This is a science fiction book. My husband says the name is "Reap the Whirlwind" but I can't find a copy of it anywhere. The story is that humanity can upload memories into a database and when you die you download your memories into a new body. But the detective hadn't uploaded for a while so he knows nothing about a big case he was working on so he has to go back and solve the case all over again. I know it's a few decades old at least but I can't find any more information on it, like the author. Please help!

>1 Anastacey: It could maybe be Voice of the Whirlwind from 1987.

A sort of similar idea is The Kiln People

This also reflects one of the short stories in Hyperion. Brawn Lahmia is hired by a clone of Keats to find out who murdered him.
