The Widow's Broom is about a widow who is tending to her farm when a witch falls from the sky with her broom. The witch soon leaves the farm but does not take her magic broomstick with her. After weeks of the broom assisting the widow, the broom gets into trouble with some neighborhood boys. The boy's fathers burn the broom and long story short the town must now live with the ghost of the magic broom. Above all, I enjoyed the illustrations throughout this book. Van Allsburg does a great job of capturing emotion but also keeping a dull mood to the pictures to keep it slightly eerie. Was a very fun read. Witch's brooms slowly lose their power overtime, and because of this, a witch came crashing into the garden of a widow. The widow kindly took the witch in and cared for her, and in return the witch left her the broom. The broom magically could sweep the floor by itself, and even chop firewood and play the piano. The neighbors soon became suspicious and try to destroy it. The widow develops a clever plan to save the broom, and they live happily ever after. The illustrations are a beautiful sweeping black and white, that have an almost haunting quality to them. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

That's basically the gist. I wish I could say more about it. But honestly, I'm not fan. ( )
