I need one quite soon, in paperback form. I live in the Philippines and it needs to be easily acquired in Manila so more popular titles are better. The books I wanted to read next are:
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
White Noise
Franny and Zooey
But neither are available in the Capital.

Here are some books that I really enjoyed:
Brighton Rock
Money
Lolita
100 Years of Solitude
Lady Chatterly's Lover
Anna Karenina
A Clockwork Orange
Beloved
American Pastoral
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
I also like reading plays (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Tennessee Williams, Harold Pinter, Death of a Salesman)

Thanks for anyone willing to help! I'm open to non-fiction as well.

Have you looked at your recommendations page? You will see the link at the top of your home and profile pages. As you add books the recommendations should get better.

Based on what you've read I think you might like Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary (sort of like Anna Karenina), or Marguerite Duras' The Lover (sort of like Lolita). I've read and enjoyed much of the same books but you haven't covered my two favourite authors, John Steinbeck (Grapes of Wrath) or E.M. Forster (A Passage to India).

You might try other books by D. H. Lawrence, like Sons and Lovers. Also playwrights Edward Albee and Arthur Miller have other plays available.

You might enjoy books by or about Asian authors and settings that should be available in the Philippines. Some that come to mind are:
Han Suyin, her famous novel, A Many-Splendored Thing and her multi-volume autobiography
Tan Twan Eng has two great WWII novels The Garden of Evening Mists and The Gift of Rain
I imagine Jose Dalisay, Jr., a Philippine writer, is already known to you?
Lots of Australian, Chinese, and Japanese authors are available in English translation. You might find their books are easy to get hold of, too.

Hope this helps.
