December already! What are you reading this holiday month?

I recently finished The Good Soldier and am now reading The Way of All Flesh.

I've finished Cold Comfort Farm (which I recommend) and am almost done with Solitude, also very good.

Currently reading The Marriage Plot, which I'm enjoying. I have The Moonstone, and a belated read of City of God on deck.

Reading and will finish The Forsyte Saga and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Have already finished Fugitive Pieces, the December group read (had already started it before it was chosen).

Sputnik Sweetheart in a single sitting last night, finishing after 3 am. I'd only read some of Murakami's short stories before which I hadn't cared much for. It didn't quite convert me but it was a lot better than I expected, a good page-turner with an interesting structure and some very unsettling passages. This morning I started Death in Venice, and the dense essayish texture feels like a brick wall in comparison.

Finished Fugitive Pieces ready for the December group read. Not sure what to read next.

Finally finished City of God which was ultimately af disappointment and started Fugitive Pieces which I so far like a lot.

I'm 20 pages into Lord Jim and so far I really enjoy it. Still some way to go, though.

I'm floundering through the middle of many many long ones. Lack of focus = multiple books on the go.

One of which is Last of the Mohicans. Anyone else find this incredibly dull?

>15 BekkaJo: Terrible. So wordy and flowery and incredibly racist. I know, it was a different time, and sometimes I can accept that but it really bothered me in this one.

I'm trying to hit my goal of 25 books from the list for the year by reading The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark and Tender is the Night by Fitzgerald.

I'm reading The Tiger's curse series and the School for Good and Evil series.

#16 So glad it isn't just me! It just goes on and on and on and oh lord I'm not even half way and on and...

I'm also really struggling with The Last World (still, I know). I think I've struggled to get into it - so I'm only reading a few pages at a time. Seems like it's the sort of thing you have to immerse yourself in, so I'll try that (albeit probably not till January).

Just started Survival in Auschwitz, listed as If This is a Man. A nice cheery tale for the holidays :)
