Kevin Henkes was born in Racine, Wis. in 1960 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. One of four children in his family, Henkes grew up with aspirations of being an artist. As a junior in high school, one of Henkes's teachers awakened his interest in writing. Falling in love toon meer with both writing and drawing, Henkes realized that he could do both at the same time as a children's book author and illustrator. At the age of 19, Henkes went to New York City to get his first book, All Alone, published. Since that time, he has written and illustrated dozens of picture books including Chrysanthemum, Protecting Marie, and A Weekend with Wendell. A recurring character in several of Henkes's books is Lily, an outrageous, yet delightful, individualist. Lily finds herself the center of attention in the books Chester's Way, Julius, the Baby of the World, and Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. A Weekend With Wendell was named Children's Choice Book by the Children's Book Council in 1986. He recieved the Elizabeth Burr Award for Words of Stone in 1993. Owen was named a Caldicott Honor in 1994. The Year of Billy Miller was named a Newbery Honor book in 2014. (Bowker Author Biography) toon minder

In the Middle of Fall door Kevin Henkes
Like most of Henkes' books, perfect for storytime. It encourages observation, celebrates the highlights of the season (colored leaves, squirrels, ripe pumpkins), and looks toward winter. The front endpapers are patterned with red, orange, and yellow leaves; the back endpapers are patterned with snowflakes.
This book has beautiful illustrations. A couple of the pages even have no words, and the pictures tell you precisely what is going on. It's also a simple but fascinating story that I can't stop coming back to to read again.
It's Kitten's first full moon and he thinks its a bowl of milk. He's repeatedly disappointed in his attempts to get to the milk.
First sentence: If you found a little ball on the grass and it was there for days, you could take it home. You could play with it.
Premise/plot: A picture book about finding things. "You" find a series of things leading up to a homeless street kitten. Magically, all previous findings help "you" out when it comes to homing the kitten.
My thoughts: I am not being sarcastic with "you." The book is written in second person. It is a slower picture book, it has its own pace. It isn't a story with a lot of thrills--which is fine. Previous love with Henkes might help "sell" this one to readers.… (meer)
