Several people on the 75 Challenge group have read Aeronaut's Windlass and enjoyed it. It is a YA novel and a real departure from the norm for Butcher. The reviews of the book were excellent. I would say that for $4.00 you got a deal.

That's the genre in which the publishers and the author placed it. It was marketed as Butcher's entry into YA literature. Is it YA? I don't know because I haven't read it, but I can tell you that there is lots of stuff being published that is classed as YA that isn't.
Several people over on the 75 Challenge group read this one and thought it was a good novel.

The American Library Association (ALA) uses the following ages or classing books. They are not the same ones that the publishers use.
Children's LIterature - newborn to age 14. (That is roughly newborn to Grade 8 or 9. Newborn to the end of Middle School.)
Young Adult - 12 to 18 (grades 7 - 12)
There is a new classification used by some publishers and that is "New Adult." This is for ages 18-25. It is not a classification used by ALA.

Lady of Quality
Cotillion

I know, not genre, but I've always enjoyed Heyer's books and unlike most historical romances they're well-researched and the characterisation fits the time period (i.e not modern people in fancy dress).

Today Amazon is offering deals on some that I can recommend:
Dies The Fire by SM Stirling. It is the start of a post-apocalypse series. The first one suffers a bit from some clunky writing, but they get better as the series progresses. It is one of those that is not easy to spend full price on but is worth $1.99.
Saint Peter's Fair by Ellis Peters - this is the only Brother Cadfael book I've read so far, but I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend.
Ride The Wind by Lucia St. Clair Robson is a grand adventure and my favorite of hers.

I think I've posted about Dean Street Press before, but I'll mention it again. They specialize in Golden Age mysteries, biographies, and mid-century British fiction. Every week (Monday to Friday) they offer several of their ebooks for free. These offers are all available for the UK and Canada, and some of them are available for the US. Other Amazon sites may vary. Even when their books are not on sale, they are very reasonably priced. This week they're offering six of Patricia Wentworth's books that are not in the Miss Silver series. To find which books are free, type "Dean Street Press" and sort by price. Or follow their very active Twitter account.

This is a bit like London buses - the UK has had barely any SF/F in the deals this year and then 50 come along at once...
It's been suggested this is as a part of the 2017 Gollancz Festival which runs until Sunday, so the deals may be around a bit longer than 24 hours. I got 5 books, and I already had at least 3 from earlier deals. Himself got 6 books and is considering some more.
>104 Maddz: Himself got Twelve Kings in an earlier deal and I have to say I wasn't that impressed. It was an OK read for me and I thought the mash-up of what appeared to be pre-Islamic elements with Islamic elements in a fantasy setting didn't work very well. If himself gets the sequel, I'll read it, but it won't be a move to the top of the TBR list. I'm also worried that if it's going to be 1 book per king, then the series is going to drag on.

Well, it looks like (as usual) the UK has been short-changed. The only Cyber-Monday Kindle deals in SF&F on Amazon.co.uk all seem to be indie authors, no names at all. It also looks like the Tor cyber-Monday discounts aren't being passed onto the UK either (https://www.tor.com/2017/11/20/cyber-monday-torcom-publishing-alert/) although this may be due to geo-restrictions (grrr...)

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson - $2.99. (First book in the original Malazan series.)

The Magic of Recluce by L. E. Modesitt Jr. - $2.99.
Lock In by John Scalzi - $2.99.
New Spring by Robert Jordan - $2.99. This is a prequel novel for The Wheel of Time and, from my understanding, shouldn’t actually be read first because it spoils some things from the earlier books. This sale was convenient for me, though, since I’m currently reading the series in publication order and hadn’t gotten to this one yet. :)

The new Kindle monthly deals for March are also up. I can’t remember the last time I saw something I wanted to buy on these monthly lists, but hopefully somebody else will see something that interests them.

Their Finest Hour and a Half covers right before and during the Blitz in London. It is about a young woman who gets a job working at the Ministry of Information. The title refers to the making of a film about one of the many boat rescues of Dunkirk.
I thought it was well written. You learn about living in London during WWII. There is also a lot about the making of films, particularly propaganda films, not to mention being a woman in the workplace. The characters are well done and it is a good story, too.
1.99 USD at Kobo and Amazon Kindle.

I just received an eReaderIQ alert that Amazon U.S. has the Kindle edition of Alif the Unseen on sale for $1.99. I snagged this one myself; it’s been on my list and it’s the first time I’ve seen it on sale.

There appears to be an Open Road Media sale on (according to The Portalist):
urlhttps://theportalist.com/may-sff-sale?utm_campaign=1k%20Titles&utm_source=Em.../url
It looks like US only (as per usual...) Clicking through, I see the sale prices but can't purchase them.
(Although I picked up a copy of The End of the Matter from Kobo at £1.91:
urlhttps://www.kobo.com/gb/en/Book/the-end-of-the-matter/url
For some reason, Gollancz/Gateway doesn't have that one and it wasn't in my sale purchases at Christmas.)

I guess it's the U.S. Amazon site's turn for a "first in series" sale, because that's their Daily Kindle Deal today. Here's the link to the Amazon sale.
Below are some books that may be of interest, but there are quite a few others listed at the above link, including other genres.
The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett - $1.99
The Wee Free Men by terry Pratchett - $1.99
Dawn by Octavia E. Butler - $1.13
Sabriel by Garth Nix - $1.99
The Black Company by Glen Cook - $2.99
City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett - $2.99
I picked up those last two myself. They’ve been on my list but I haven’t caught them on sale before.

>237 YouKneeK: Book 10 of the Black Company series is coming out in the autumn (after years) which is probably why there's a sale now. You may want to look for Shadows Linger and The White Rose as well; the 3 books effectively form a sub-series within the overall series. Fingers crossed we get the sale as well - although I picked up these 3 as ebooks via the omnibus Chronicles of the Black Company (I still have my old paperbacks).
Be warned though, Cook's style on these is not to everyone's taste - I'd classify these as military fantasy and they're pretty gritty (and to a lesser extent grimdark) as well. If you find this too gritty, you could try the Dread Empire series - it's more of a straightforward epic fantasy.

>241 Maddz: Cook's been working on the next couple books for a number of years now. Port of Shadows looks to be a standalone story, and (like many of the short stories written since the original series ended) takes place sometime during the original trilogy. I believe the same will be true of the forthcoming "A Pitiless Rain".

>270 Maddz: I have been leaning towards doing that, because of the deals available on Amazon, but... I dunno... I feel MTBR will be bigger than Olympus Mons if I go down that route...
273Maddz
>272 divinenanny: My MTBR is huge - but isn't actually. It's about 75% replacements for paper books that were read many years ago. As backlist titles become available at a reasonable price, they get purchased and the paper book goes in the for sale box to go to our next bring and buy. At the moment I don't have much time to sit and read - the garden is calling.
274divinenanny
>273 Maddz:, Ah, for me MTBR contains 2573 works. These are works I physically or digitally own, and I actually want to still read. If that one Twilight Zone episode ever happens I am set for life. I buy physical mostly, unless the digital is too cheap (or free) to pass up (mostly Humble Bundles) or the physical is too expensive (I'm looking at you, Tor.com novellas) in comparison to the digital edition.
275clamairy
>274 divinenanny: You make me feel a little better about my 1400+ TBR pile! (Roughly 300 of those are on my Kindle.) I have grown a lot pickier about buying any kind of book these days. Especially with my impending move into a smaller place. I have books in 5 different rooms here, but I'm going to attempt to keep the bulk of them in one room after I move. With satellite book cases sprinkled about. LOL
276Maddz
>275 clamairy: The only rooms in my house without books are: the utility room, the downstairs loo, the main bathroom and the third bedroom (aka the dressing room). Every other room has at least one bookcase. That’s one reason for going digital whenever possible these days.
277clamairy
>276 Maddz: Agreed! Plus, they're usually cheaper, and you never have to dust them. 😊
278Maddz

>276 Maddz:, >277 clamairy: I have books in every room except the utility room, the loo and the bathroom. My main concentration is our (who am I kidding, my) library in the attic room. We moved here 18 months ago, and my husband has sworn to never ever move the books himself again, but we will always hire movers from now on. ;).

Fool’s Quest (the second book in the final trilogy, Fitz and the Fool) is $1.99 on the Kindle Daily Deal for Amazon U.S. I snagged this myself since it’s one of the few in the series that I don’t already own, and I plan to start (or re-start) the whole thing late this year.

Tor’s free e-book of the Month is up. It’s A Shadow in Summer by Daniel Abraham, the first book in The Long Price Quartet. I read the series years ago and really liked it, so I hope this will get more people to try it! It’s only available through July 13th.
If you don't recognize the author's name, he also wrote a more recent fantasy series, The Dagger and the Coin, which begins with The Dragon’s Path. And he’s half of the writing team of the Expanse series.
