Gollancz appear to be cutting prices on their ebook collections (mostly mysteries); if you search Amazon.co.uk for Gollancz collection, you'll come up with a lot:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3733285&postcount=1842

The Dune collection was in the Christmas sale last year, so check you haven't already got it.

There's another Charlaine Harris collection - the Harper Connelly series: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harper-Con...lbr_books_authors_browse-bin:Charlaine+Har...

Some of her crime series are also in the sale, and are of interest because they all seem to intersect in the Midnight Texas series.

Also spotted:

The Lyonesse Trilogy by Jack Vance for £3.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Lyonesse-Suldruns-Garden-Gollancz-ebook/dp/B00...

10 titles in the Xeelee Sequence by Stephen Baxter for £3.99:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xeelee-Sequence-Stephen-Baxter-ebook/dp/B01HBL2SI2/ref=...
(Note that the Destiny's Children series are a separate entry as well as included here.)

Time's Tapestry by Stephen Baxter at £3.99:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Times-Tapestry-Stephen-Baxter-ebook/dp/B01HBL2T1I/ref=s...

10 titles in the Psy-changling series by Nalini Singh for £3.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Psy-Changeling-eBook-Collection-ebook/dp/B005V2234S/ref...

The Confluence Trilogy by Paul McAuley for £3.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Confluence-Trilogy-Child-Ancients-Shrine-ebook/dp/B00FY...

The best way to look is to search Amazon for 'Gollancz collection' - about half the results are stand-alones, but the rest appear to include some rather good bargains.

Yeah, it's refreshing, especially when there's something good: there's at least 2 print books going (although I may put the Tim Powers into store as it's the 1st edition ppbk), and 7 authors I'd actually read. Makes a change from StoryBundle - which usually features authors I've never heard of.

149divinenanny
nov 21, 2018, 3:46 pm

>148 Maddz:
Storybundle used to have some known authors (I got the Haikasoru, Story Collections and VanderMeer bundles back in 2015/2016). Right now it's just indie authors. Some famous ones (Kevin J. Anderson comes to mind) but most unknown. And my reading time is precious, and I just.... don't take a chance on unknown writers. I need reviews, awards, recommendations.

Humble Bundle on the other hand is my number one acquisition source :D

Bewerkt: nov 21, 2018, 4:44 pm

>148 Maddz: >149 divinenanny:
Yeah, I've grabbed like two StoryBundles ever. (The Apex World SF and Haikasoru ones.) The indie author thing just does not appeal to me anymore. Plus StoryBundle is $5 for 4 books, whereas Humble Bundle you can usually get 6-10 books for $1. (Or double that for $8 as opposed to SB's $15.)

152Maddz
nov 21, 2018, 5:46 pm

>150 saltmanz: I've had 7 StoryBundles when there's been sufficient I want that makes getting the rest of the bundle a trivial add-on - which generally means at least 3 or 4 books. If there's only 1 or 2 books that catch my eye, I don't bother - it's usually cheaper to pay full-price at Amazon. I've had 11 book bundles from HumbleBundle (12 if you include the White Wolf RPG bundle).

Of course, that is by far out-weighed by the 38 Bundles of Holding I've acquired over the years (plus 4 resurrections)...

153divinenanny
nov 22, 2018, 2:50 am

I think what Maddz means is that the eBooks in the bundle replace a couple of her print books, freeing up room for more. Humble Bundle is (nearly?) always only ebooks (DRM free, usually in ePub, Mobi and PDF formats).

The U.S. Amazon site has a lot of Tolkien books on today’s daily Kindle deal. It looks like they’re all $2.99 each to purchase. This includes the well-known works like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but there’s a lot of other stuff too.

They’re selling the “One Volume” omnibus version of The Lord of the Rings for $2.99 and the individual books in the trilogy for $2.99 each, so it would probably make more sense to buy the omnibus for $3 than the individual books for $9. I know that’s obvious, but I wanted to mention it in case somebody didn’t even notice the omnibus was on the list.

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky for $2.99.
The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie for $2.99.
The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang for $1.99.
Rosewater by Tade Thompson for $2.99.

I’ve received a couple eReaderIQ alerts for sales on the U.S. Amazon site that may be of interest. I’m not sure how long they'll be on sale since I didn't find them on a deal page, but these are books I don't normally see for sale on the U.S. site. I grabbed them both:
Dune by Frank Herbert - $1.99
Grass by Sheri S. Tepper - $1.99

On today’s Kindle Daily Deal, they also have A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe by Alex White on sale for $1.99. I didn’t grab that one, but I’ve seen people talking about it lately (more on GR than here I think) so I thought I'd mention it. The reviews I've seen from friends haven't been that great.

The series is now up to book #umpteen; when book 2 was on a 99p deal earlier this year we both passed on it. Whether the series gets any better, I don't know; it may be like the Jim Butchers and take a few books to get into it's stride, or it may be like the Rachel Caine series which seem never-ending.

>281 Maddz: Shoot, I also own the first, but it might be worth the extra 50p to get the omnibus...

>282 saltmanz: I'd only split the omnibus which means fiddling around getting the covers correct. So, to me it was worth it saving the 50p as all I'd do is download into K5Mac, import into Calibre and convert to ePub and then sideload onto my Icarus. Getting the omnibus means extra steps in my import process - I'd also have to run it through ePub split, change the covers and edit the metadata before sideloading.

Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com) has their summer sale posted running throughout July. It's the usual morass of self-published works with a smattering of back-list titles where the rights have reverted to the author.

Of note:
Ruthanna Emrys: Imperfect Commentaries is $3.50 (50% off)
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/946158
Very recently published short story collection not available on Amazon (at least in the UK).

CatYelling (publishers) have a number of titles by Will Shetterly & Emma Bull. Not in the sale, but they tend to be cheaper than Amazon:

I've picked up electronic versions of various titles (I already have Liavek in both electronic and print - note that the electronic versions differ because of rights).

Lavie Tidhar (https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/lavietidhar) is currently 50% off in the sale. The 4 Apex World SF books (one - #4? - was in a recent StoryBundle) are $2.50 each and a couple of novellas are $1.50 each and thus cheaper than Amazon.

Cynthia Felice: Iceman is $2.00 (50% off):

>284 Maddz: I've never used Smashwords before but having clicked through some of your links I will be signing up very soon! Thank you (I think ...)!

>285 Sakerfalcon: I warn you their interface is truly dreadful. The classic interface is less sucky, but it's still dire. The only way of getting author book lists is to enter the author name in the search box and hope something comes up. I'm slowly working my way through my author list hoping to find stuff.

It doesn't help that there's multiple author profile pages - you'll notice a Sherwood Smith above, and I think Melissa Scott actually has at least 3 pages with different publishers.

I don't really know if there are any bargains going on, but I thought this deserved a mention here in the pub.

>288 Sakerfalcon: It's been up for a while - it's part of the July Monthly Deal so that price will be good for the rest of the month.

Oddjobs by Heide Goody is free on Amz.fr today, which would usually mean it also is on .co.uk and maybe other places as well.

I'm starting a new thread for bargains, so please try to use it. This one seems to load a little slowly now.
